There’s a lonesome guitar playing on the radio
I try and keep this old truck on the road
My mind wanders to the night before
2 free beers and I took the door
Goodbye Houston, off to San Antone
I sing for a living and I write these songs for you
Can’t nobody carry a tune quite like I do
My throats been scratched with gravel
These words they like to travel
I’ll sing them all as I pass on through
One more night, one more song
One hundred dollars and I’ll move on
One more day on the road
Keep on moving all alone
2 sets left and I’m tired on the stage
Ain’t no bed to hold me till my grave
This whiskey tastes like gasoline
Nobody’s listening or so it seems
I just thank God I got somewhere to play
A redheaded girl steps close to my microphone
All black leather and her eyes shine like chrome
I’ll sings these songs for her
With a heart that burns
But when it’s over I’ll be going home
Repeat chorus
If you see me singing come say hello
It’s cold as hell and lonely on your own
All I got is this old guitar
Tragic words and empty bars
I wish I had something else to hold
Heard this on WNCW today and listened on repeat all day. Had to buy the vinyl and show my support. This is gonna be my summer 2020 album and I’m perfectly fine with that. Great work and look forward to the streams later this month. Find the podcast from Southern Songs & Stories about the band and album. mrsoulmarkj
